Etsy-first 3D printed fantasy artifact brand

End of Days Forge

A business plan for turning a Bambu Lab A1 into a narrative merch shop: original relics, tokens, mini masks, sigils, charms, plaques, and giftable artifact bundles from worlds at the edge.

1

Executive Summary

What this business is and why it can work.

End of Days Forge should be positioned as a fictional forge and reliquary producing artifacts from the final age of imagined worlds. The products are physically 3D printed, but the customer-facing offer is not “plastic prints.” It is small-batch fantasy relic merch: coins, oath tokens, mini masks, brooches, talismans, plaques, shrine tiles, desk artifacts, and curated bundles.

The Etsy market is crowded with generic 3D printed objects. The strategic answer is not to out-volume print farms. The answer is to build a recognizable narrative universe, then use that universe to make every listing feel more collectible, giftable, and emotionally specific.

Business thesis: use the Bambu Lab A1 to produce small, repeatable, hand-finished fantasy artifacts with enough lore, photography, and packaging to command better pricing than generic 3D printed trinkets.
2

Strategic Position

How the shop should win against oversaturation.

Not this

“We sell 3D printed fantasy stuff.” That puts the shop in a commodity lane where buyers compare only price, size, and shipping.

Do this

“We forge relics, sigils, and oath tokens from worlds at the edge.” That creates story, collection logic, and a reason to buy more than one item.

Win condition

Customers understand the vibe in five seconds, trust the photos, want the lore card, and see obvious gift/bundle paths.

Primary differentiation levers

  • Original IP: original factions, symbols, product names, and lore.
  • Collections: each product belongs to a faction, order, shrine, or relic set.
  • Finish language: three repeatable finishes that look intentional and photograph well.
  • Packaging: lore cards, faction marks, batch numbers, and gift-ready presentation.
  • Bundles: cache boxes and faction starter sets to lift average order value.

Brand Foundation

The name works because it tells customers what world they are entering.

Artifacts from the last age.

Brand meaning

End of Days suggests prophecy, ruin, last kingdoms, forbidden orders, apocalypse cults, and relics from a world near collapse. Forge suggests craft, metal, sigils, weapons, coins, badges, and made objects.

Together, the name supports dark fantasy merchandise without needing licensed references.

Brand voice

  • mythic but not cheesy
  • dark but not gore-focused
  • collectible and giftable
  • artifact-forward rather than toy-forward
  • original-world language over franchise imitation

Tagline options

Product Architecture

Small, shippable, repeatable products that still feel premium.

TierPrice RangeProductsPurpose
Entry relics$8–$18rune tokens, faction coins, key charms, small sigils, mini relic shardsLow-risk buyer entry, add-ons, reviews, bundle builders.

Hero bundles$50–$95adventurer cache boxes, faction starter kits, shrine sets, premium wall reliquariesHigher average order value, stronger photography, collector appeal.
Rule: full wearable masks are not the launch product. Mini masks, brooch-scale masks, and mask plaques are the better Etsy fit for the A1 and the current budget.

Machine and Materials Plan

Using the Bambu Lab A1 without overextending production.

Bambu Lab A1 style desktop 3D printer with metal frame, print head, build plate, and control display

Printer

Bambu Lab A1 standalone is the preferred printer because its 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume gives more room than the A1 Mini while staying near the $300 target when priced well. Reference buy link: Micro Center — Bambu Lab A1 3D Printer.

If the A1 consumes the whole available budget, the launch should wait until another $100–$150 is available for operating supplies.

Starter supplies

  • matte black PLA
  • bone/ivory PLA
  • stone gray PLA
  • bronze/copper/silver drybrush paints
  • matte clear coat
  • kraft boxes or rigid mailers
  • lore cards and faction stickers

Initial filament / spool requirement

The A1 uses standard 1.75 mm filament. For the first EOD Forge launch, assume 1 kg PLA spools as the planning baseline. Start with matte black PLA as the workhorse, then add bone/ivory, stone gray, and metallic-look PLA only after the first listings are proven. Use PLA for most painted artifacts; consider PETG later only if durability/heat resistance becomes necessary.

Prototype ItemGeneric Filament/ItemPlanning Yield From 1 kg SpoolNotes
Oath coins / rune tokens15–25 g35–55 finished piecesAllows ~10–15% waste for failed prints, supports, purge, and test pieces.
Charms / key markers / small sigils10–20 g45–80 finished piecesBest high-yield starter category; good for bundles and add-ons.
Mini mask pins / brooch masks35–60 g14–24 finished piecesCore visual SKU; yield depends heavily on thickness and supports.
Shrine tiles / small plaques70–120 g7–12 finished piecesGood mid-tier Etsy item; paint time matters more than filament cost.
Wall reliquary / logo-style plaque120–220 g3–7 finished piecesUse as premium/test item until print time and finishing workflow are proven.
Small cache bundle100–180 g total4–8 bundlesAssumes several small pieces plus packaging/lore card; best for AOV if labor is controlled.
Planning rule: a single 1 kg spool should be treated as roughly 850–900 g of sellable output after calibration, supports, purge, failed prints, and prototypes. For early financials, do not model a perfect 1,000 g yield.

Three repeatable finishes

Ancient Bone
Ivory base, dark wash, matte seal.
Blackened Iron
Black base, graphite/silver drybrush.
Old Bronze
Bronze drybrush, umber wash, worn edges.

Etsy Presence

Listings should sell the artifact first, production method second.

Shop positioning

End of Days Forge creates original fantasy relics, faction tokens, mini masks, sigils, and artifact bundles for shelves, RPG tables, costumes, and gifts.

Listing title formula

Financial Model

The business needs bundles and mid-tier items, not only cheap tokens.

Item TypeSuggested PriceRoleNotes
Single token/charm$9.95–$14.95Entry/add-onBest as bundle add-ons; single-item shipping can hurt margins.
Mini mask pin/brooch$19.95–$34.95Core SKUGood blend of size, value, giftability, and visual appeal.
Rune/tile set$24.95–$39.95Core/bundleGood for RPG and decor buyers.
Small plaque/reliquary$29.95–$54.95Premium visual SKUGood for photos and shop identity.
Adventurer cache$59.95–$89.95Hero bundleBest average-order-value builder.

Break-even logic

  • At $10 net profit per order: about 30 orders to recover a $300 printer.
  • At $15 net profit per order: about 20 orders.
  • At $25 net profit per order: about 12 orders.
Target early AOV: $28–$45. Long-term AOV target: $45–$65 once bundles and cache boxes are proven.
9

Operations

A lean workflow that can actually run from one printer.

Weekly rhythm

  • Monday: Etsy stats and SKU decisions.
  • Tuesday: batch print small inventory.
  • Wednesday: prototype or reprint failures.
  • Thursday: finishing, drybrushing, sealing.
  • Friday: photos, listings, packaging prep.
  • Weekend: content, customer service, shipping buffer.

Quality gate

  • Photographs well from 3 feet and close-up.
  • No sharp or ugly unfinished backs.
  • Finish is repeatable in batches.
  • Survives normal handling and packaging.
  • Has a clear product story and use case.
  • Can be made without excessive supports or failure risk.

Labor-Loaded Financial Sheets

Baseline realized-sales expectations with painter and 3D print designer wages backed into the model.

This model treats the business like it has to pay for its real production labor, not just filament. Baseline assumptions use a $20/hour painter or finisher wage and a $30/hour 3D print designer wage. Etsy/payment fees are estimated at 9.5% + $0.45 per unit/order for planning purposes.

Risks and Controls

The plan works only if the shop avoids common 3D print traps.

Risk: commodity pricing

Control: original lore, original symbols, bundles, packaging, and finished variants.

Risk: low margin small items

Control: use tokens as add-ons and sets, not only single standalone products.

Risk: too much finishing labor

Control: only three standardized finishes at launch; no unlimited custom paint.

Risk: IP issues

Control: no franchise names, copied symbols, game logos, or scraped STL designs.

Immediate Action Plan

The next concrete moves.

  1. Confirm A1 purchase price and whether supply money remains.
  2. Lock the brand as End of Days Forge unless trademark/search checks reveal a blocker.
  3. Finalize four faction symbols and visual motifs.
  4. Prototype three products first: oath coin, mini mask pin, small sigil plaque.
  5. Calculate actual grams, print time, finishing time, and packaging cost.
  6. Photograph prototypes in the same visual system.
  7. Launch 6 strong listings before trying to force all 12.
Best next deliverable: a 12-listing Etsy launch sheet with titles, descriptions, tags, dimensions, prices, materials, photo prompts, and production notes.
